The US does not intend to take the position of a mediator between Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia. This was stated by the US Ambassador to Skopje, Angela Ageler, quoted by BGNES.
In a television interview, she indicated that regardless of whether negotiations for accession to the EU have started or not, it is clear what needs to be done to meet the criteria. The diplomat noted that the Roadmap exists and everyone wants to see progress in this regard.
Ageler emphasized that the place of the RSM is in Europe. She highlighted the importance of transport corridors No. 8 and No. 10. The EU is the natural home of the RSM. What I do know is that this government is in talks, has frequent talks with member states, with leaders in the European Union, the European Commission, and is sincerely looking for ways to move forward, she noted.
The ambassador indicated that she wants to see progress from Skopje in several areas, including the economy and the rule of law. According to her, the political crisis in Bulgaria should not jeopardize the dialogue process, because North Macedonia's membership is in the interest of everyone, including its neighbors.
She emphasized that the United States is monitoring the situation between Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia, but will not act as a mediator between the two countries. "We will always be and have been strong supporters, friends and allies of this country, as we are with Bulgaria," Ageler emphasized.
