The US president met with business leaders in Davos after his speech at the World Economic Forum and called himself a “dictator“. Video from the event was published by the White House press service.

Trump said he got good feedback for his speech and attributed it to “common sense“.

“I can't believe it. We got good feedback for that speech. Usually they say: “He's a terrible dictator“. I'm a dictator. But sometimes you need a dictator. In this case, they didn't say that. And no, it's common sense. "It's all based on common sense," the Republican said.

On his first day as president, when asked if he considered himself a dictator, Trump denied it. "I can't even imagine being called that," he said on January 21, 2025.

Nearly two months after that statement, an online poll of 5,025 adults from all 50 U.S. states conducted from February 28 to March 20 found that more than half of Americans called Trump a "dangerous dictator."

Fifty-four percent of those polled said they disapproved of Trump's performance as president, while 43% approved of his performance after 100 days in office. Democrats and Republicans had diametrically opposed assessments of Trump.

January 20 marked one year since Trump became president of the United States for the second time. According to the Republican, during that time he has “ended eight wars”. Despite its campaign promise not to start "no new wars," the United States has conducted several military operations.

In June, the United States joined Israeli strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities at Fordow and Natanz, and in January 2026, it conducted Operation "Absolute Resolve," which included strikes on Caracas and the capture and expulsion of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
