Inflation in Croatia remains among the highest in the eurozone, data for Bulgaria also released

Eurostat also published its first estimate for Bulgaria, which joined the eurozone this year

The annual inflation rate in Croatia, measured by the consumer price index, was 3.4 percent in January, the Croatian National Statistical Office announced today, quoted by HINA. This marks a slight acceleration in annual price growth, while Eurostat data show that inflation in Croatia remains among the highest in the eurozone, the agency notes, BTA reported.

According to an initial estimate published by the office, consumer prices rose by 0.3 percent in January compared to December. After declining to 3.3 percent in December from 3.8 percent in November, annual inflation accelerated slightly again at the beginning of the year.

On an annual basis, prices of services increased by approximately 7.2 percent, energy prices by 3.7 percent, food, beverages and tobacco by 3.0 percent, and non-energy industrial goods by 0.1 percent.

Compared to December, prices of services increased by 2.2 percent, energy by 1.8 percent, and food, beverages and tobacco by 0.1 percent. by 1.0%, while non-energy industrial goods prices fell by 3.4%.

According to a preliminary estimate published today by Eurostat, the annual inflation rate in Croatia, as measured by the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices, was 3.6% in January. Only Slovakia recorded a higher rate - 4.2%.

The average annual inflation rate in the euro area was 1.7% in January. Eurostat also published its first estimate for Bulgaria, which joined the euro area this year, showing that prices there rose by an average of 2.3% year-on-year in January.
