New documents about Jeffrey Epstein, published by the US Department of Justice, show that the late financier wanted to buy the building of the former Yugoslav embassy in New York, known as “Tito's villa“, Serbian media reported, BTA writes.

Among the new documents is an email received from Epstein, with 26 photos of the property, as well as information from the “New York Post“ with the title: “For $50 Million You Can Own Manhattan's Last Gilded Age Mansion“.

On December 10, 2018, Epstein received an email from financial advisor David Mitchell informing him that there had been a fire in the former Yugoslav embassy building and that it might be a good time to submit an offer.

Interestingly, during his attempt to buy the building, Epstein also contacted the former High Representative of the International Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Miroslav Lajčak, according to the published documents, the Nova portal reports.

“I went to see the old Yugoslav embassy. They told me it was for sale, but that all five governments, the Serbian and the others, had to agree. Interesting,” Epstein wrote on October 25, 2017.

And Lajčák’s response was: “They will never agree. They have been trying to agree on the division of property since 2001 and there is no end. You should consult me on anything related to the former Yugoslavia or the current successor states, I know them by heart.”

Former Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák is often mentioned in the Epstein files, and a few days ago he resigned as an advisor to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitz.

Despite Epstein’s research in 2017-2018, he did not buy the mansion known as "Tito’s villa in New York". Four years later, it was sold for $50 million, and Serbia received 40 percent of the money based on Annex "B" of the Agreement on the Succession of the Property of the Former SFRY Abroad, Nova reports.
