French President Emmanuel Macron said that the Franco-German-Spanish FCAS fighter jet program is not dead and hopes to discuss plans for moving forward with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz soon, Reuters reported.
In December, sources indicated that a meeting between the French, German and Spanish defense ministers did not lead to a breakthrough in saving the troubled program, under which the countries would build a plane to replace the French Rafale and the German and Spanish Eurofighters.
Asked whether the FCAS project was dead, Macron replied: "No".
"The French assessment is that the FCAS is a very good project and I have not heard a single German voice telling me that this is not the case," he stressed.
Macron expressed hope that the FCAS project will progress.
