The Dispute Further Complicates Relations Between Budapest and Kiev Amid the Ongoing War and the Energy Dependence of Some Central European Countries

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has accused Ukraine of planning actions to disrupt the operation of Hungary's energy system and has ordered the deployment of military units and equipment to protect critical infrastructure. This is reported by "Reuters", indicating that the decision further exacerbates the dispute between Budapest and Kiev over the interruption of supplies through the "Družba" oil pipeline.

According to Orban, the interruption of the "Družba" oil pipeline occurred for "political, not technical reasons", and Hungarian intelligence data indicates a risk of new actions against the country's energy system. In a video posted on Facebook, he said he had ordered increased security at key energy sites, including by deploying military personnel and equipment near strategic infrastructure.

Hungary and Slovakia have accused Kiev of the prolonged interruption of Russian oil supplies to their refineries. Ukraine has previously said the disruption was the result of a Russian drone strike on equipment servicing a pipeline in the western part of the country.

The dispute further complicates relations between Budapest and Kiev amid the ongoing war and the energy dependence of some Central European countries.
