German Chancellor Friedrich Merz says US President Donald Trump has assured him of the continued US military presence in Germany.
“President Trump also assured me once again that the US will maintain its military presence in Germany“, he told reporters during a visit to Washington. “This is good news; I expected nothing less“, Merz said.
Around 35,000 US troops are currently stationed in Germany. In addition, according to unconfirmed reports, up to 20 US nuclear warheads are stationed at a base near Büchel in Rhineland-Palatinate.
