Russia has not yet decided to join the Peace Council, created at the initiative of US President Donald Trump. The concept seems less relevant than before against the backdrop of US aggression in the Middle East. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov to TASS, Focus reports.

"We see that in general, while the war in the Middle East continues, the phrase "Peace Council" is probably less relevant now than it was before the start of this war," he added. "We should probably wait and see how everything ends," he said.

The Peace Council was officially established on January 22. The structure was originally created to govern the Gaza Strip within the framework of agreements between Israel and Hamas - this format of its work was also approved by the UN - but Washington is actively promoting the idea of using the council to prevent and resolve conflicts in other regions.

The Russian Foreign Ministry explained that the current charter and mandate of the Peace Council raise questions, as they declare a "replacement" of existing UN structures in a number of parameters.
