The winner of the parliamentary elections in Hungary, Peter Magyar, said that there is evidence of the destruction of sensitive documents from the time of the previous government and called on citizens to report such actions, reports "Reuters".

His Tisza party, which achieved a convincing victory in the elections and ended the 16-year rule of Prime Minister Viktor Orban, has created an online platform for submitting anonymous signals by so-called "whistleblowers".

In a statement on Facebook, Magyar warned that anyone involved in the destruction of documents would be held accountable after the new government takes office, which is expected to take place on May 9 or 10. According to him, signals of such actions come from ministries, state institutions, including the National Judicial Service, as well as from companies that flourished during Orbán's rule.

Magyar stressed that the destruction of evidence damages the state and could make future investigations impossible. So far, there has been no official comment from the government and the institutions involved.

The new leader has promised a large-scale anti-corruption campaign after taking office, as part of efforts to unblock billions of euros in European funding frozen by the EU due to accusations against the previous government of undermining democratic standards.

For his part, Orbán has repeatedly denied the accusations of corruption and stated that Hungary is no more corrupt than other European countries. In a recent interview, he admitted that media reports about the accumulated wealth of businessmen close to his Fidesz party probably contributed to his election loss, without commenting on their credibility.
