American aid to Ukraine will send a message that there won't be a "second Afghanistan", he said today in interview for the show "Meeting with the press" ("Meet the Press") on the American television channel NBC Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, quoted by Reuters and BTA.

It is necessary for the process of granting this aid to reach its final point, and after the House of Representatives in the US Congress it will be approved by the Senate, added the head of state of Ukraine.

Last night, the lower house of the US Congress approved a military aid bill totaling $95 billion, which includes aid to Kiev. Now it must also be approved by the Senate so that President Joe Biden can sign the law and it will come into force, according to Reuters.

Zelensky added that approving the aid would also send a strong message to the Kremlin that the US is behind Ukraine and so Kiev has a chance to win. Asked about the prospect of a powerful Russian offensive, the Ukrainian president said his country was preparing for it.

He stressed that Ukraine's armed forces need long-range guns and air defense systems so that they do not continue to lose people on the front line.

"We want our military units to be fully equipped," Zelensky also indicated, quoted by Reuters.
