The UN Security Council will today hold an extraordinary meeting in connection with the attack on Israeli forces on a tent camp in Rafah that killed dozens of Palestinians.

This was reported to TASS by a diplomatic source in the Security Council.

The meeting will be held in the format of closed consultations. “The closed consultations will take place on Tuesday evening at the request of Algeria”, the source said.

On the night of May 27, the Israeli military struck Rafah, at least eight rockets hit a tent camp in the Tel es-Sultan area, located next to a warehouse of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East. A fire broke out in the tent city. According to the latest figures provided by the Palestinian WAFA agency, at least 40 people were killed as a result of the attack, most of the victims were women and children.

The press service of the Israel Defense Forces announced that an investigation has begun to establish the circumstances of the deaths of civilians in the area of the Rafah strike.

The International Court of Justice adopted non May 24, at the request of South Africa, a decision that Israel must stop the offensive in Rafah and any other actions that would could negatively affect the population of the city.
