At its meeting in Washington this week, NATO promised Ukraine an "irreversible path" not towards membership in the alliance, but "towards an abyss", said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, adding that Russia is not planning attacks on NATO member countries, TASS and Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
"The Kiev regime was promised an "irreversible path" to alliance membership. To be honest, I don't know what this irreversible path is, but it seems to me that the only association that emerges is "the path to the abyss,", Zakharova said at a briefing yesterday. According to her, “it seems that Ukraine is still welcome in the alliance, but at the same time it is obvious that all this looks more like a game not with Ukraine, but a game with the remnants of Ukraine”, TASS points out.
The spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry also made a statement on the occasion of what was written in the NATO declaration, adopted in Washington, that "Russia remains the most significant and direct threat to the security of the alliance," notes Reuters. Zakharova announced that Russia is not planning to attack NATO and that it is the alliance that is fueling tensions. In her words, the bloc is trying to "justify its existence and strengthen Washington's control over its European satellite states".
The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry also said that the Ukrainian authorities plan to destroy the dam of the Kyiv hydroelectric plant in "another provocation" directed against Russia.
At the same time, she accused South Korea of blackmail and threats in connection with possible arms deliveries to Ukraine, informs Reuters. Last month, South Korean National Security Adviser Chan Ho-jin said Seoul would reconsider supplying Kiev with weapons after North Korea and Russia signed a mutual defense agreement in the event of war.
"We very much regret that Seoul's foreign policy uses NATO-specific messages, methods of blackmail and threatening tactics, which are unacceptable for independent countries,", Zakharova told media representatives. The spokeswoman advised Seoul to end the "war games" (the training shootings) on the border with North Korea because it risks raising tensions on the Korean Peninsula. She also drew attention to the "illegitimate sanctions" imposed by Japan on Russian companies, and announced that countermeasures will be taken.
Zakharova also noted that the mental state of US President Joe Biden, who made significant mistakes during his appearances in Washington, has "shaken the whole world". She also touched on another topic related to the USA, noting that the joint Armenian-American military exercises "Eagle Partner" ("Eagle Partner") are undermining the security cooperation scheme between Armenia and Russia.
The spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also pointed out that Russia "has no illusions about a potential serious change" in French foreign policy after the early parliamentary elections in France won by the left-wing coalition bloc "New Popular Front". "French foreign policy has abandoned its previous Gallic traditions and now exclusively serves the interests of Washington and Brussels," Zakharova said.
