Ukrainian Army Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky said, that Ukrainian forces have advanced between 28 and 35 kilometers into Russia's Kursk region, and Russia is redeploying troops from other sectors of the front to reinforce its positions there, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

Syrsky told a nationally televised press conference that Russia is also sending additional forces to the Pokrovsk region in eastern Ukraine, where the fiercest fighting is now taking place in the Russian invasion of Ukraine that began two and a half years ago.

On August 6, Ukrainian forces launched the largest invasion of a foreign army on Russian soil since the end of World War II and caught Russian troops off guard, AFP notes. Ukraine explained that it wanted to create a buffer zone in this way to be able to protect its own population.

However, the situation for the Ukrainian army in eastern Ukraine remains difficult. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that the situation on the eastern front line in Ukraine, near the strategic logistics center of Pokrovsk, as well as near Toretsk, is "difficult", Reuters reported. The General Staff of Ukraine wrote in turn on "Facebook" that since the beginning of the day, 14 combat clashes were registered near Toretsk and 34 in the Pokrovsk region.
