NK Pro, a website specializing in North Korea analysis, reports a significant increase in air traffic in the country, the main reason being the intensive flow of military and government aircraft from Russia. This revelation was made after a study of air traffic in the isolated country over the past year, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by News.bg.
After the closure of North Korean borders in 2020 at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, flights from abroad were completely stopped. They resumed only last year, but according to NK Pro data, from July 2023 to August 2024, only 350 flights were registered. More significant is the increase in Russian government and military flights, which already exceed pre-pandemic levels.
Experts link this increase to the strengthening of bilateral ties between Moscow and Pyongyang. During this period, several Russian government delegations visited North Korea, and President Vladimir Putin was also there in June 2024.
North Korea openly supports Russian aggression against Ukraine, as reflected in official statements. According to Western intelligence agencies and independent Russian journalists, Pyongyang also supplies significant amounts of ammunition to Russia.
