Russian President Vladimir Putin supports the idea of a ceasefire in Ukraine, but a number of issues need to be resolved for this purpose, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists, quoted by TASS, BTA reported.
„President Putin really supports the idea of the need for a ceasefire. But a number of questions need to be answered for this purpose. These questions are hanging in the air and so far no one has given them an answer“, Peskov noted. He explained that it is about “the inability of the Kiev regime to control a number of extremists and nationalist units that simply do not listen to Kiev“. “This is also related to plans for further demilitarization of Kiev“, the Kremlin spokesman added.
According to Peskov, Moscow and Washington have not yet set exact dates for their next consultations. “There really should be a continuation. This is a common understanding. There is no specific day yet“, he pointed out.
The Russian President's Special Envoy for Foreign Economic Cooperation, Kirill Dmitriev, said that Russia and the United States could establish new contact as early as this week.
Peskov also commented on relations between Russia and Iran, noting that Moscow is constantly in contact with the Islamic Republic and that it is doing everything necessary to resolve the issues surrounding the Iranian nuclear deal through political and diplomatic means.
