Trump admits US could face recession

The country's economy, which is in a period of transition, will eventually recover, the US president said

US President Donald Trump has admitted that the US could face a recession in the short term, but believes the country's economy will eventually recover.

„Anything can happen. But I think we're going to have the strongest economy in the history of this country," he told NBC when asked about the possibility of a recession.

Trump added that he was not worried about this problem and that the US economy was "in a transition period" from which it would emerge in great shape.

Previously, former US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in an interview with the Financial Times that the United States was facing a recession because of Trump's trade policy and the tariffs he imposed. She noted that the US is "heavily dependent on supplies of key minerals from China" and this could significantly weaken entire sectors of its economy with the extremely high tariffs on Chinese imports.
