The trade talks between Washington and Beijing in Switzerland were constructive and a lot of progress was made, US President Donald Trump said.

“Today in Switzerland, a very good meeting was held with China. We discussed a lot, we agreed on a lot of things“, he wrote on his page on the social network Truth Social.

“A full restart was discussed in a friendly but constructive way. We want China to open up to American business for the benefit of both China and the United States. A lot of progress has been made“, Trump noted.

As reported by the DPA agency, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant held two rounds of talks in Geneva on Saturday to resolve tensions over the introduction of reciprocal tariffs. The talks will continue on Sunday.

In an interview before the talks began, Bessant said that no agreement was expected to be signed in Geneva. According to the finance minister, the discussion would rather be about reaching an understanding on issues that need to be discussed, since convergence of positions is in the interest of both sides.

Total US tariffs on goods from China reach 145%. China responded by raising tariffs on US goods to 125% from April 12.
