Although the Russian Federation planned to carry out a "training and combat" launch of the RS-24 "Yars" intercontinental ballistic missile on the night of May 19, everything indicates that it simply did not take place., reports Defence Express.

According to the defense intelligence of Ukraine, the launch site was the most atypical possible - in the Sverdlovsk region, near the city of Svobodny. It is there that the 433rd regiment of the 42nd division of the 31st army of the Russian strategic missile forces is based. It is located only 25 km from Nizhny Tagil.

Therefore, any launch will most likely be filmed by local residents. Then the network will be full of follow-up photos.

The Russians would also have been able to observe the flight of the missile. Given that the main Russian test site for intercontinental missiles is Kura in Kamchatka, the flight of this missile could be observed over a large part of Siberia and the Far East, from Khanty-Mansiysk to Magadan. But no video of the flight has been published.

It remains unclear why the Russians did not launch the missile. After all, in 2023, Russia twice in a row failed to launch the RS-24 “Yars”, deviating from the course. After all, every missile undergoes preliminary checks before its flight, and it is unlikely that the Kremlin is interested in showing the failure of its nuclear deterrent before the talks between Putin and Trump.

An emergency situation is also possible during the first stage of the flight immediately after launch. Despite the fact that the "Yars" is a deep modernization of the "Topol", there is always a risk of failure. It is also worth mentioning that at the end of September 2024, the RS-28 "Sarmat" rocket exploded in the launch pad at the "Plesetsk" cosmodrome in the Russian Federation.
