Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said today that he will ask parliament to vote for a vote of confidence in his coalition government after the candidate of the nationalist party “PiS“ Karol Nawrotski won the presidential election, world agencies reported.
“The first test (for the government) will be a vote of confidence, which I will soon ask to be voted on in the lower house“, the pro-European Tusk announced in a televised statement.
He also promised to continue governing the country and expressed hope that he would be able to cooperate with the newly elected President Nawrotski.
The results of yesterday's election weakened Tusk politically and raised questions about whether his multi-party coalition will be able to survive until the end of his term in office at the end of 2027, the Associated Press reported. If he survives the vote of confidence, it would show that he still has a mandate to govern.
It is currently unclear when the vote of confidence will be voted on.
