US President Donald Trump is likely to speak by phone with Chinese leader Xi Jinping this week, White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt said on Monday, quoted by DPA and BTA.
Levitt did not provide further details and there has been no confirmation of the information from Beijing so far.
If the phone call takes place, the leaders are expected to focus on the ongoing trade disputes between their countries. Although the US and China agreed in the middle of last month to ease some of the tariffs they announced on each other, tensions between them have recently intensified again, DPA notes.
At the same time, the US is working on new sanctions against Russia. US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said the sanctions would target countries that continue to buy Russian oil, gas and other energy products - something that would seriously affect China.
