Iranians are largely cut off from global communications after losing access to the internet, the London-based cybersecurity group NetBlocks said, DPA reported, BTA reported.

“Data shows Iran has been offline for more than 12 hours after authorities imposed a nationwide internet blackout, citing accusations that Israel was abusing the network for military purposes,“ the NGO's “Ex“ said in a publication.

The measure continues to hinder residents' access to information at a critical time, it added.

“NetBlocks“ said last night that real-time network data showed that Iran was currently in a state of near-total internet blackout across the country. The outage followed a series of partial outages and comes amid escalating tensions with Israel and days of exchanges of missile strikes.

The Tehran-based Mehr news agency last night quoted an Iranian communications ministry statement as saying that the restrictions followed “the hostile aggressor’s misuse of the national communications networks for military purposes and to endanger the lives and property of innocent people.”

Meanwhile, the Israeli military said today that its air force was currently striking military targets in Tehran. The Israeli strikes began six days ago when Israeli jets struck military targets in the early hours of Friday.
