A fire has broken out at the “Cherna Voda“ nuclear power plant in Romania, Digi24 reports. A room with technical equipment is on fire and firefighters have intervened to put out the flames, BTA reported.

The smell of smoke is felt only in a technical room where there are computers, emergency power supply and electrical equipment, the Dobrudja Emergency Situations Inspectorate reported.

The fire alarm was triggered in unit 1. A special team went to the scene with a truck with water and foam.

The national company "Nuclearelectrica", operator of the Cerna Voda NPP, specified in a press release, quoted by Agerpres, that the plant's two reactors are operating with normal parameters. The company specified that the source of smoke in the administrative part of the site has been identified and brought under control and there is no risk to the operation of the reactors.

The "Cherna Voda" nuclear power plant is the only one in Romania and is located in Constanta County, in the southeastern part of the country.
