Almost 75% of Germans believe they will not be able to maintain their current standard of living after retirement, as their pensions will not be sufficient. This is shown by a new survey by "YuGov", published today, DPA reported, BTA reported.

In order to maintain their standard of living, 54.3% of workers surveyed (a total of 1,163 people) said they would work after reaching retirement age - most often part-time and until the age of 70. One in five (19.8%) would only stay in work if they received a higher salary, and 33% categorically reject the idea of working into old age.

The federal government aims to remove obstacles for older workers who want to stay active.

The survey also shows that 63% of the 2,069 respondents support the idea of using taxes more widely to finance pensions. But 57.3% doubt that this approach would be sustainable in the long term.
