US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday (US time) that Israel has agreed to the necessary terms for a 60-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Reuters and the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.

“Israel has agreed to the necessary terms to finalize a 60-day ceasefire, during which we will work with all parties to end the war“, Trump announced on social media.

According to him, Qatar and Egypt, who have made great efforts to help achieve peace, will present the final proposal.

“I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that "Hamas will accept the deal because they will not get better, they will only get worse," Trump wrote.

There has been no reaction from Israel yet, DPA reports.

The US president made the announcement as he prepares to host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for talks at the White House on Monday (July 7). The US leader is increasing pressure on the Israeli government and the radical Palestinian group "Hamas" to reach an agreement to end the war in Gaza.

"Hamas" says it is ready to release the remaining hostages under any agreement to end the war, but Israel says it can only do so if "Hamas" disarms and disbands. The Palestinian group refuses to lay down its arms, Reuters recalls.

Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer is in Washington for talks with senior Trump administration officials to discuss a possible ceasefire in Gaza, Iran and other issues. Dermer is expected to meet with Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Steve Witkoff.
