The European Parliament will vote today in Strasbourg on the motion of no confidence in the European Commission under the presidency of Ursula von der Leyen. The vote will be open, and the vote will be successful if it receives a majority of two-thirds of the votes cast, BTA reported.
So far in the history of the EP there have been eight votes of no confidence against the EC and none of them have gathered the necessary majority. This is the first vote against a commission under the leadership of Von der Leyen. The vote is related to the fact that the EC President did not provide access to the messages exchanged with a representative of the vaccine manufacturer "Pfizer" for the supply of over a billion doses for several billion euros during the Covid pandemic.
In the debate on the vote on Monday, Von der Leyen noted that representatives of all EU countries participated in the negotiations on the supplies. It is a lie that any EU country was unaware of the contracts, prices or quantities, she added to MEPs. The vote was tabled by Romanian MEP Gheorghe Piperea from the European Conservatives and Reformists group. According to Von der Leyen, this step is supported by enemies of the EU, among whom she named Russia.
