US President Donald Trump has expressed hope that Republican Majority Leader John Thune will cancel the August recess to approve nominees for various state offices.
“I hope the talented John Thune, who has won many victories in the last two weeks, and indeed the last six months, will cancel the August recess and the long weekend to approve my wonderful nominations“, Trump wrote in Truth Social.
Trump did not specify which candidates he was referring to. As Newsweek magazine explains, at least 49 judicial nominees in several states await confirmation in the Senate.
According to the current year's schedule, the Senate of Congress will go on summer recess from August 4 to September 1.
During this period, senators are expected to leave the capital and head to their states, which they represent in the upper house of the legislature.
