Residents of Sweida reported a peaceful night after Bedouin fighters withdrew from the predominantly Druze Syrian town, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

No shots were heard this morning, a local resident said, and a Druze official told Reuters that most areas were calm.

Local resident Kenan Azam, a dentist by profession, described the situation as "tensely quiet" and added that people in the town were still affected by the lack of water and electricity. "The situation in the hospitals is catastrophic, they are not functioning," Azam added. He said there were many wounded people in the city of Sweida, as well as more bodies on the streets.

The clashes between Bedouin and Druze fighters broke out a week ago, and Syrian government security forces were subsequently deployed to the area to quell the fighting. However, the Druze accused Damascus forces of committing attacks against them, which prompted Israel to launch airstrikes in southern Syria and Damascus.

A ceasefire was declared on Wednesday, but the Syrian presidency accused Druze fighters of violating it. Damascus announced a new and comprehensive ceasefire yesterday, and the Syrian Interior Ministry later announced that Sweida and the area had been cleared of Bedouin fighters.
