Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to move towards a peaceful solution to Ukraine, but Moscow's main goal is to achieve its goals, a Kremlin spokesman said
Dmitry Peskov told Russian state television in a statement broadcast on Monday to TV host Pavel Zarubin, Reuters reported.
Peskov said the world had become accustomed to Donald Trump's sometimes "sharp" rhetoric, but pointed out that the US president had also stressed in his comments on Russia that he would continue to seek a peace agreement.
"President Putin has repeatedly spoken of his desire to bring the Ukraine issue to a peaceful conclusion as soon as possible. This is a long process, it requires effort and it is not easy," Peskov said.
"The main thing for us is to achieve our goals. Our goals are clear," the Kremlin spokesman said.
Trump announced a tougher stance towards Russia earlier this week, promising a new wave of military aid to Ukraine, including Patriot missile defense systems. The US president also gave Russia a 50-day deadline to agree to a ceasefire or face additional sanctions.
FAKTİ recalls that the conditions Russia has set for Ukraine effectively mean the capitulation of the Ukrainian state. It must give up much of its territory, disarm its army and promise never to join NATO.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said yesterday that Ukraine has offered Russia new talks to be held next week. Zelensky mentioned this offer in a post on his channel on the “Telegram“ app.
Ukraine and Russia held two rounds of talks in Istanbul this year, which resulted only in an exchange of prisoners of war, but no breakthrough in the positions of the two sides on the terms of a ceasefire. Zelensky said that a proposal for a new round of talks had been sent to Moscow.
