Russia is considering an air truce with Ukraine as a concession to US President Donald Trump in an attempt to prevent tough secondary sanctions, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.

As the agency notes, Kremlin officials understand that today's visit by US President's special envoy Stephen Witkoff to Russia is the last chance to reach an agreement with Trump. At the same time, Bloomberg's interlocutors note that expectations for success are “low“.

According to one of the sources, a halt to missile and drone strikes could be one of Moscow's potential proposals - provided that Ukraine also agrees to it. At the same time, Bloomberg writes that Russian President Vladimir Putin will not agree to a complete ceasefire, as Russian troops "continue to confidently advance on the battlefield."

Trump gave Russia until August 8 to cease fire. Otherwise, he promises to impose serious tariffs on goods from countries that buy oil products from Russia.

"Reuters" wrote earlier on August 5 that Putin does not want to "anger" Trump and understands that he may be missing an opportunity to improve relations with Washington, but military goals are more important to him. According to sources in the agency, the Russian president wants to completely seize four Ukrainian regions, after which he will begin peace talks.

US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Moscow today, TASS reported. Witkoff was met at "Vnukovo" airport by Russian President Vladimir Putin's special representative for economic cooperation with other countries Kirill Dmitriev.

US President Donald Trump said last night that he would decide whether to sanction countries that buy Russian oil after White House special envoy Steve Witkoff meets with Russian officials in Moscow tomorrow, "Reuters" reported, BTA reported. He added that he was trying to protect the US from the military conflict in Ukraine.
