The latest BMW M5 has been criticized for its heavy weight and unconventional design that deviates from the typical status of previous M models. To address these concerns, BMW introduced M Performance Parts, offering a range of carbon fiber components that improve the car's appearance and, to a lesser extent, its weight.
From front spoilers to rear diffusers – the Bavarians offer carbon fiber accents to adorn the M5's substantial bodywork. However, these components have a negligible effect on the overall weight, which is still too high. Additional M Performance options include decals, lightweight wheels and carbon exhaust tips and more.
Although optional extras like a carbon roof and carbon-ceramic brakes can shed some pounds, the M5 still falls short of its predecessor, the M5 CS, which boasted a lower weight. Notably absent from the initial M5 range are the carbon seats and centre-lock wheels previously available on the special editions and smaller M models.
