The Japanese automaker has filed for registration of a new trademark. According to rumors, the company is preparing a replacement of the brand logo, similar to most European brands.
According to inside information, Mazda cars will get an updated logo. Based on the documentation discovered by Drive, the new logo appears to be a cleaner and simpler black and white version of the currently used emblem.
Mazda first introduced the familiar V-wing logo in 1997. Since then, the company has presented it in three slightly different versions, with a new, two-dimensional version now underway.
The updated logo has reportedly been registered alongside a new trademark featuring the company name in capital letters and a new typeface used to brand the Mazda Foundation and cars such as the Mazda 3.
The automaker declined to comment on questions from journalists about the new trademark, so it is not known for sure whether the company will undergo a complete rebranding or whether the logos will simply be used in some division of the company.
