An Englishman buys a Range Rover 2024 SV Edition One for the sum of £183,000 and the dealership explains to him that this ultra-luxury SUV is positioned as "unstealable". However, this turns out to be most likely a publicity stunt, as the new owner does not have much time to enjoy his purchase. Just 60 hours later, the limited edition luxury SUV is stolen from under his house. This is reported by the Daily Mail.
The 45-year-old former owner of the car - a man named John from Warwickshire, UK, claims that the dealership assured him that the car was “not susceptible to theft“.
He bought a limited edition Range Rover 2024 SV Edition One from an official dealer of the brand. A total of 550 of these cars were produced in the UK. The car has many extras, including special wheels worth £ 10,000, a luxurious high-tech interior and a variety of fun features, such as seats that vibrate to the beat of the music, etc.
John knows that this will attract unwanted attention in a country where luxury car thefts have increased significantly in recent years, but he claims that he was told that the car has a new security update from Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) that makes it unstealable. Less than 60 hours later, John's car was stolen from his driveway.
„I felt safe knowing that. „I had just paid £183,000 for a car made by JLR and the staff were confident that they had already made these cars safe and invulnerable“, John told reporters, adding that he had asked showroom staff about installing a Ghost immobiliser, which requires a password to start the car, but was told it was not necessary because "nobody could steal this car".
John wakes up to several missed calls from a car tracking company and looks out his window to see... an empty driveway. Security camera footage shows three people getting out of a parked car at around 1am. One remained at the scene, while two headed for the luxury SUV. Neither of them got close enough to the owner's house to use the key scanner, but they somehow gained access to the car and then, within 15 minutes, they were in the car and driving away.
The owner still doesn't understand how the thieves managed to steal his luxury Range Rover without even breaking a window, but he believes the fact that they targeted this particular car and then drove away means they were confident they would get what they came for.
John has already complained to Jaguar Range Rover (JGR), claiming a "fatal failure in their safety system, advertised as perfect", but the company is refusing to take the case into consideration. A representative has already told the press that JLR will not consider liability claims, as car theft is a risk that all owners face.
