According to the latest rumors in automotive circles, the Lotus Emira may soon be equipped with a powerful V8 engine - and not just any one, but the well-known M177 from Mercedes-AMG.
This is the same 4.0-liter biturbo unit that is used in models such as the AMG C63, E63, G63 and even the GT. The reason for the change of the V6 engine is its incompatibility with Euro 7 emission regulations.
The speculation is fueled by the fact that Lotus is currently owned by Chinese car giant Geely, which also owns a significant stake in Aston Martin - a brand that has already successfully integrated the M177 into its models. This puts Lotus in an ideal position to take advantage of the already established partnership with AMG.
The new V8 Emira is expected to be paired with the ZF8 8-speed automatic transmission, used in numerous Aston Martin and BMW cars. If the rumors are true, we can expect a unique combination of power, sound and dynamics. Will this be the European alternative to the C8 corvette?
