Porsche has confirmed that in October 2025 it will discontinue production of the last two models in the 718 series with internal combustion engines: the Cayman GT4 RS and Boxster Spyder RS. This officially ends the era of the Porsche 718 with naturally aspirated engines, which have become a symbol of dynamics, lightness and mechanical feeling behind the wheel.
The remaining versions of the 718 range, including the standard, T, S and GTS, have now been removed from the configurator and cannot be ordered. The GT4 RS and Spyder RS remain the last representatives of the petrol-powered model. Both use the high-revving 4.0-liter naturally aspirated unit from the 911 GT3, which reaches 9,000 rpm and is among the most respected sports engines in the modern automotive industry.
Porsche is making this decision despite growing interest in both models. Electric successors to the 718 are expected to arrive in 2027 at the earliest, meaning 2025 will be the last chance to buy the GT4 RS and Spyder RS directly from the factory.
These cars will go down in history as the last naturally aspirated 718 models, focused entirely on the driving experience. Without hybrid technology, without artificial sounds and with a purely mechanical connection to the road, they offer a pleasure that will not be repeated in the electric age.
With the end of their production, Porsche is solidifying the 911's position as the enthusiast's car. At the same time, this is an invitation to fans of the 718 GT range, if you want to own the last true small sports model from Porsche with a naturally aspirated engine, the time to act is now.
