US President Donald Trump said he discussed bilateral trade issues on the phone with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and plans to meet with him soon.
“I had a very good phone call with Brazilian President Lula da Silva this morning“, the American leader wrote on Truth Social. “We discussed many issues, but the conversation focused primarily on the economy and trade between our countries. We will continue our discussions and meet in the not-so-distant future, both in Brazil and in the US. I enjoyed this conversation; our countries will work very well together.“
As the Brazilian government's press service reported earlier, Lula da Silva, in a 30-minute conversation with Trump, “called for the elimination of the 40% tariff on Brazilian goods and the restrictive measures applied to Brazilian employees“. The statement specified that “the presidents agreed to meet in person in the near future“.
The United States imposed tariffs on Brazilian goods in early August. The United States imposes duties of up to 50% on a number of Brazilian imports, mainly on coffee and meat products.
