Japanese automaker Honda Motor may expand imports of its own cars from the United States to reduce the trade deficit that US President Donald Trump has expressed, NHK reported.
The company is currently conducting market research, including to determine which models will be imported from the United States. Toyota Motor has already announced similar plans. Nissan Motor said it would make a decision on importing its cars from the United States after analyzing the market.
Reducing the trade deficit has been a key topic during negotiations between Tokyo and Washington to reduce increased import tariffs imposed by Trump. Among other things, the Japanese government is reportedly considering selling American cars in the country without undergoing additional testing, which the US has expressed dissatisfaction with.
