Netherlands has fewer gas reserves than Poland - 1

Underground gas storage (UGS) stocks in the Netherlands have fallen below 14%, a historic low for the second half of February. The Netherlands has less gas left in its underground storage facilities than Poland, according to data from Gas Infrastructure Europe.

Gas reserves in the Netherlands' underground gas storage facilities - one of the largest gas storage facilities in Europe - have fallen to 13.72%. Only 1.9 billion cubic meters remain in storage, which is even less than the 1.94 billion cubic meters in Poland's underground gas storage facilities as of the same date.

Other leading countries in terms of gas storage capacity are also actively using their accumulated fuel. Underground gas storage facilities in Germany are only 22.3% full, in Austria 38.6%, in France 23% and in Italy 50.1%. Gas storage facilities in Slovakia are 32.2% full, in Hungary 38.3%, in the Czech Republic 35.4%, in Romania 40.6%, in Bulgaria 46%, in Belgium 24.5%, in Denmark 28.1%, in Latvia 21.9% and in Croatia 14.3%.

The last gas production season from European underground storage facilities ended on 28 March 2025, with 33.57% of reserves remaining. Currently, European underground gas storage facilities are 32.5% full (16.44 percentage points lower than the average for this date over the past 5 years), compared to 43.3% the previous year. Since the start of the heating season on 13 October, EU countries have withdrawn more than 61 billion cubic metres of gas from storage. Net yields have reached almost 56 billion cubic metres, which is already 1 billion cubic metres more than the volumes injected in the summer.
