With the new technology, composers, songwriters and publishers will be able to claim compensation from AI developers for unauthorized use of their works, Sony Group announced.
Sony's technology can extract data from a basic AI model and compare generated music to its original sources, quantifying their contribution to facilitate revenue collection.
“We want to contribute to creating a system in which creators are properly compensated“, said a spokesman for the Japanese electronics group's entertainment unit.
The group-wide efforts to protect content are becoming increasingly visible, with Sony Music Entertainment in the U.S. suing a company for copyright infringement in 2024 regarding the use of artificial intelligence to generate music.
