The price of bread in Bulgaria may rise in the coming months due to the sharp increase in fuel prices. This is predicted by industry representatives, who warn that higher transportation and production costs will inevitably affect the price of the staple food on the Bulgarian table.
In Montana, people are carefully monitoring prices in stores, especially that of bread. So far, some consumers have not noticed a change, but others are convinced that the increase in prices is inevitable, since the increase in fuel prices affects all stages of production.
The fuel market has been extremely dynamic in the last week. According to traders, prices are rising almost daily – sometimes by one euro cent, and on some days by up to six euro cents, mainly for diesel fuel, writes NOVA.
Among those most affected by the price increase are agricultural producers, who are currently in the midst of the spring campaign. According to farmers, the new fuel prices will increase the costs of cultivating the land and producing the crop. Farmers point out that in addition to fuel, the prices of other basic resources are also rising. Fertilizers have risen in price by between 10 and 20 percent, and preparations - by about 7-8 percent. This will increase the cost of wheat and may lead to a higher purchase price for the grain.
Currently, wheat futures contracts are holding at around 330 leva per ton - approximately the same as last year. According to producers, however, if costs continue to rise, the purchase price could reach at least 400 leva per ton.
Bread producers also expect an impact on the price of the final product. According to producers from Lom, the increase in fuel and flour prices will affect production costs. According to them, there are already signals that the price of flour is increasing, including for standard 25-kilogram packages. However, producers are not yet committed to an exact forecast of how much bread will increase in price, since the situation on world markets is changing rapidly.
