Vietnam has sent over 35,900 of its citizens to work under labor contracts in other countries in the first quarter of this year. These statistics are provided by the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam.
According to the Department of Foreign Employment of the Ministry of Labor, the largest employers of Vietnamese labor are Japan and Taiwan. Other countries that employ Vietnamese nationals include the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Romania, Thailand, Saudi Arabia and Hungary.
In total, in 2024, the Ministry of Labor intends to provide overseas employment for at least 125,000 local workers, paying special attention to key traditional markets such as Japan, Taiwan and South Korea. More than 159,000 Vietnamese workers went abroad last year, exceeding the annual target by 33.3% and the highest level of labor exports recorded in the past ten years.
Currently, according to the ministry, about 650,000 Vietnamese migrant workers are working in four dozen countries and territories around the world. Every year, they send home about 3.5-4 billion USD in remittances, which not only helps their families live better, but also contributes greatly to Vietnam's socio-economic development.
