A new problem facing the labor market in Bulgaria - 1

The acute lack of personnel continues to be felt. The situation is worst in Burgas, where at the moment – before the start of the summer season, 27,000 workers are wanted. With 300 less, or 26,700 workers are wanted in Sofia. In third place is Varna, where 25,800 workers are missing. Plovdiv remains in fourth position. There, the business is looking for 18,900 workers, according to an analysis by the Institute for Market Economy.

The three main sectors in which labor is sought are tourism, trade and transport.

Specialists are of the opinion that the only solution is to import labor. The process for this summer season was supposed to start a long time ago, but it didn't happen. The procedure is quite cumbersome and needs to be simplified. An employer who wants to employ a foreigner must comply with 17 different points in the process of importing personnel.

At the same time, the tendency among businesses is not to hire labor, because it is difficult to find such, but to distribute the additional work to their old employees.

Low unemployment combined with the lack of sufficient personnel leads to low unemployment growth. The fact that some of the unemployed do not feel like working should not be overlooked, which further aggravates the situation.
