The American technology corporation Microsoft will invest 1.7 billion USD to develop artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud infrastructure in Indonesia in the next four years, the company's press service announced.

In a statement, the tech giant said it was “the largest investment in Microsoft's 29-year history in the country”. Among other things, the company intends to train 840,000 Indonesians to work with artificial intelligence and support the country's technology developers.

Corporate CEO Satya Nadella, announcing the plans at an event in Jakarta, noted that investments “in digital infrastructure, workforce training and support for developers will help Indonesia achieve prosperity in a new era” . The Indonesian government aims to become a “global economic power” by 2045 in accordance with the Golden Indonesia 2045 program. Microsoft is confident that the investment will contribute to the implementation of this plan.

For his part, Indonesian Minister of Communication and Information Buri Ari Setiadi noted that the partnership with the American corporation “will open new horizons for Indonesia”, as a result of which the country will be able to become “ a key player in the global technology chain.”

The Microsoft executive noted separately that the corporation intends to provide training opportunities for working with artificial intelligence tools to 2.5 million residents of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations by 2025. /p>
