The Italian island of Capri has lifted the ban on receiving tourists after the problems with the water supply have been solved, reported France Press, quoted by BTA.
The ban was announced early yesterday morning, forcing several morning ferries from Naples and Sorrento to turn back.
However, the island's mayor Paolo Falco said last night that the ban had been “lifted” after a technical problem preventing water supplies from the mainland had been fixed.
Falco previously described the ban as a response to a “true emergency” and clarified that local reservoirs are “running out” the water.
„The emergency situation will worsen with the arrival of the thousands of tourists who come to Capri every day,” said the mayor. Local residents were not subject to the ban and were allowed to stock up to 25 liters of drinking water per household from water carriers.
Capri, on the Bay of Naples, is famous for its whitewashed villas, cove-strewn coastline and luxury hotels. It has around 13,000 permanent residents, but a draw for huge numbers of day-trippers in the summer.
