Germany's budget for next year will amount to 481 billion euros, of which 57 EUR billion will come from investments. “In 2025, we are planning a budget of EUR 481 billion, of which EUR 57 billion will be investments,” wrote German Finance Minister Christian Lindner on his page on X (formerly Twitter). However, he noted that this was another significant increase compared to the already record level.

The draft budget for 2025 will be submitted to the parliament for approval.

In turn, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that from 2028 the country's annual defense budget will reach “80 billion EUR“, “Starting from 2028, i.e. after the special fund is fully spent, the budget will consist of "€80 billion to continue to meet the requirement of 2% (of GDP for defense spending)," the chancellor said. “We are talking about a strong defense, a strong Bundeswehr that offers protection against the aggressive dictators of our time,” added Scholz.

The negotiations between the ruling coalition for the 2025 budget are quite difficult. It was originally planned to be agreed by July 3, but due to disagreements between the parties, the deadline was postponed to July 17. Previously, the youth wing of the coalition Free Democratic Party even threatened to stop supporting the government due to disagreement with the position of the Social Democrats, which, as the media reported, could trigger a government crisis.
