440 million vehicles, including 345 million passenger cars, were in use in China as of June 2024, the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China announced. As of September 2023, there were 430 million vehicles on China's roads.
The total number of vehicles powered by new energy sources in China is 24.72 million, of which 73.36% are electric vehicles.
According to the traffic police, a record 4.397 million new electric vehicles were registered in China in the first half of the year alone. For the six months, they were registered by 39.41% more compared to the same period last year. Approximately the same dynamics - a growth of 41% was noted in 2023 compared to the previous one.
The number of drivers with driver's licenses in China has reached 532 million, of which 496 million drive passenger cars. In the first half of 2024, 13.97 million new drivers obtained a driver's license.
In 96 cities of the country, according to statistics, more than 1 million cars are registered, with 43 cities having more than 2 million, and 26 cities - more than 3 million cars. In the megacities of Chengdu, Beijing and Chongqing there are over 6 million, in Shanghai, Suzhou and Zhengzhou - over 5 million.
