Ukraine is facing a huge power problem - 1

Ukraine is experiencing significant problems due to Russia's destruction of its energy infrastructure, a situation that is a “huge burden on the population” and “it will become even more critical by winter”. The author of the newspaper Berliner Zeitung.

writes about this

"The destruction of the electricity infrastructure affects all areas: industry, commerce, gas and water supply and heating. The situation will become more and more critical, especially towards winter”, notes the author.

„Furthermore, the West does not provide Kiev with sufficient and effective support. Ukraine is only allowed to attack targets in Russia to a limited extent and also cannot mobilize enough people to the front. In this situation, Ukraine is heading towards an imposed peace and the end of its freedom”, the author of the article believes.

Earlier, the office of the President of Ukraine said that the worst situation in the energy sector has developed in Kharkiv after a series of explosions. According to the mayor of Kharkiv, Igor Terekhov, in March, the entire energy infrastructure of the city was destroyed. At the time, most of the population was subject to blackout schedules of four hours per day. Power supply was provided by other areas.

Overall, the country has lost 50% (more than 9 GW) of its generation capacity in recent months, around 80% of heat and a third of water production destroyed. Authorities are tightening schedules for blackouts that can last 8-12 hours a day or more, and are also resorting to emergency supplies from European countries.

Ukraine actively resorts to electricity imports. According to the edition "Ukrainskaya Pravda" in June, the country imported more electricity than in the whole of 2023. At the same time, as the deputy head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy Svetlana Grinchuk noted, in the current conditions, even the increased volume of imports will not be able to cover all energy needs.
