The President of Republika Srpska (Bosnia and Herzegovina region) Milorad Dodik expressed interest in discussing investment projects in the field of mining with Elon Musk.< /span>

„I am happy about the increased interest of investors in the mineral resources and mineral wealth of Republika Srpska. It would be interesting and useful to talk about this with Elon Musk - one of the greatest innovators of the XXI century, about our potential, especially since he is responsible for maintaining the power of the name and fame of our Nikola Tesla, the greatest scientist and inventor of the 20th century“, Dodik wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The head of Republika Srpska also noted that he considers the signing of a memorandum on strategic raw materials between Serbia and the EU “the path to a better and more secure future”. In addition, Dodik expressed interest in the participation of RS in joint projects with Serbia in this area.

Serbia and the European Union signed a memorandum of understanding on July 19 covering a strategic partnership in the field of raw materials. The document was signed in Belgrade in the presence of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. According to the Serbian leader, Belgrade can produce 58 thousand tons of lithium per year and supply it to the EU. As Vucic noted, this amount would be enough in total to produce 1.1 million electric vehicles. In this case, Serbian supplies will represent about 17% of the European lithium market.

In 2022, the Serbian authorities abandoned a joint project with the Australian-British concern Rio Tinto to develop deposits of the lithium-bearing mineral yadarite in the area of the city of Loznica. This happened after a series of protests by eco-activists. Last week, the Serbian Constitutional Court overturned this government decision, making it possible for the project to resume.
