The authorities of Kazakhstan plan to develop new gas fields with a total production volume of 1 billion cubic meters per year. This was stated by the President of the Republic Kasim-Jomart Tokaev at a joint meeting of the chambers of the Parliament.
"The operation of a number of gas deposits began last year, and the development of new ones with a total production volume of 1 billion cubic meters per year is also planned. However, before the full commissioning of these projects, it is necessary to rationally allocate gas supplies to the domestic market and adopt a balanced approach to the transfer of thermal power plants and domestic consumers from coal to gas, he said.
The modernization of sections of the Central Asia - Center gas pipeline has been completed in record time. The length of the facility is over 800 km. Expansion of capacity and diversification of gas transportation routes is necessary. “One of the main tasks of the government remains the provision of gas for the population and the economy. The government has been instructed to accelerate the construction of gas processing plants in Zhanaozen, Kashagan and Karachaganak. This is a priority task“, the country's leader noted.
Tokaev also emphasized that for the successful development of the industry, it is necessary to introduce effective incentives in the shortest possible time, aimed at ensuring return on investments, including ensuring adequate tariffs and wholesale prices. “Such conditions are extremely important for new investments in gas exploration. Otherwise, it is simply impossible to provide the economy with sufficient quantities of gas, Tokaev explained.
