Cyprus ends the summer season with a new historic record for tourist visits, BNR reported. Hoteliers expect the positive trend to continue in September and October, and for the season to cover November as well.
The statistics office reported almost 555,000 tourist arrivals in August, the highest ever for Cyprus. It exceeded the number of visits from August 2019 - the record year for Cyprus tourism so far - by 0.2%, and compared to last August the increase was 8.5%.
From January to August, guest arrivals on the island were 4.1% more than the same period last year.
At a difficult moment, tourism is growing and showing sustainability, which is a success for the entire tourism system of the country, commented the Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis on the record.
In September and October, it will become clear how successful the extension of the tourist season after the summer months has been and how 2024 will ultimately end, emphasized the general director of the Cyprus Hotel Association Filokypros Rousounidis.
According to him, the goal is for the hotels to continue operating until the end of November.
