Boom in the production of rose oil, but the entrepreneurs are not rosy - 1

Boom in the production of rose oil. This is indicated by the latest announced statistics, from which it is clear that production increased by 1,000 tons, and the price per kilogram of rose oil from Bulgaria exceeds 16 thousand dollars, NOVA reported.

According to owners of rosé massifs and distilleries, however, business is not booming at all. According to Vladimir Stoyanov, who deals with rose production, processing and products from roses, the statistics that nearly a ton of rose oil was produced during the year are rather incorrect, since the calendar year and the agricultural year are something different.

„The first 6 months they reported one oil that was produced last year. It was sold this year, but not produced now”, explains the rose grower from the “Bulgarian Rose Valley” Association. Vladimir Stoyanov adds: “I have not observed double growth of roses in Bulgaria and plantings, on the contrary, they are decreasing. And the plantations are not increasing”.

At the end of the campaign it is hard to say that the year has been good. “It started record early, then there was a period of 15 days in which it rained a lot and actually there was a lot of water in the kilos. We have processed some 30% of water, which is not going to be a good year, he specifies.

Realized sales per kilogram of rose oil are quite wide. “Certainly there may be deals at a price of 15-16 thousand, but they cannot be in any way a common denominator for the industry. The tendency of the markets is for the price to fall, not to increase”, says the producer.

Unless a few basic things are done, nothing rosy awaits the rosy business. “Unfortunately, the trend is to reduce rose production. Inevitably, there will be closed factories, there is no way this thing will not happen if some concrete measures are not taken”, warned Stoyanov.

„The state as a guarantor should say yes, this year the Bulgarian companies produced 2 tons of Bulgarian oil and it has the necessary qualities that the customer expects. The truth is that for foreigners we are quite chaotic and a little scary even, they are worried about doing business in Bulgaria. “There must be a desire first, there must be a dialogue between the institutions and the industry”, he explained.
